History of Sta. Rita
According to the folk residing in this Barangay, long ago there were a group of thieves who attacked several barangay in the Municipality of Oton. One night a group of thieves entered and attacked our barangay for cattle swindling of the residents of the farm. Upon pulling the cattle in that area, a beautiful lady with a skull on her hand appeared in their way and said to them “Go away and leave those cattle or else I will make you one of them”. They felt so much scared and run leaving the stolen cattle.
The news scattered in the barangay and to the neighboring barangay of that incident. Until one time, the thieves never attempted a robbery in the barangay because of their fears. Because of curiosity, the people tried to find out the name of the Lady Saint who is carrying a skull on her hand. Until such time they found out that the Lady Saint who suit that description was Saint Sta. Rita de Cassia, a “martyr and a protector”. So from then on they decided to name the barangay as Sta. Rita de Cassia.
The folks of this Barangay celebrating the Annual Fiesta every 22nd day of May in honor of their Patron Saint, Sta. Rita de Cassia.
