History of Cabanbanan

Is one of the 37th barangay of Oton Iloilo, it is more or less 6 kilometers away from the heart of Oton. It has a land area of 101 hectares more or less and can be considered agricultural, residential barangay as well, bounded South and the boundary of Oton and Tigbauan Municipalities. Everybody knows that towns and barangays in the Island of Panay were named after the time and plants are mostly grown in a certain place. Like barangay Cabanbanan were ban-ban plants most grow in our place. When the Spanish came to our barangay they found ban-ban grows in most part of the place and only later that it was taken for residential use. Since then our barangay was named “CABANBANAN” meaning a place of ban-ban and commonly termed “Ca” a place a certain plant-like “caniogan” termed or named as the place of many “niog” or coconut weeds suffix of CA”. Until now no other named was assigned to our barangay and only CABANBANAN. That was the history of our barangay and now called BARANGAY CABANBANAN, OTON ILOILO.
