Tagbac Elementary school and the Oton Municipal Library and Historical Center became recipient of computers from SM and Oton Chicago Circle (OCC) last July 20, 2006 and August 2, 2006 respectively.

The SM Foundation, represented by its Project Director Ms. Cristy Angeles, turned over (5) units of computer and books to the Tagbac Elementary School, Oton. This grant was made possible through the request of its principal, Emma Caballero, the PTA and the Barangay Council headed by Hon. Edgar N. Javellana. This is the second time for Barangay Tagbac to avail of SM’s generosity since the later also gave 270 packs of clothing materials and homewares for indigent families last May 2006.

On the other hand, the Oton Municipal Library received one (1) unit computer with internet modem and printer from the OCC represented by its president, Mr. Ariel Ramos. The Oton Chicago Circle is an association of Ogtonganons living in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. For several years now, they have been sending books, magazines, and other reading materials like Readers Digest and National Geographic which are very helpful to the Ogtonganons especially the high school students from the public schools. This generosity is a proof of OCC’s commitment to promote literacy in Oton.

Mayor's Message

Welcome to the Municipality of Oton , -the 1st  Pueblo in Panay founded in May 3, 1572 and seat of Christianity in Western Visayas . Oton boasts of a rich historical and cultural heritage that dates back to the time of first Malay settlers in the country. (It was the seat of the Confederation of Madia-as under Datu Paiburong.)

Today, the Municipality has evolved into a progressive society where business ventures thrive. Also, with its established subdivisions, it has become Iloilo ’s residential haven due to its proximity to the city and geographical composition. Being a coastal town, our people continue to enjoy the blessings of the sea-its abundance and inherent capacity for leisure. The farms yield various agricultural products-rice, watermelons and vegetables.

Last November 28, 2001 Oton was launched as a Municipality of Character . This program enables Ogtonganons to promote the character qualities which are the corner stone of a strong, dynamic and progressive society.

Welcome to Oton-the place to be!

CARINA V. FLORES

       Mayor
